EVENT LOG: GOOD GOD, Y'ALL

Who: EVERYONE
What: the Good God, Y'all mingle log.
When: Days 461-462 ( June 9-12 )
Where: the castle courtyard
Rating: PG-13. Anything higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!

Day 461 ( June 9/10 )
When the Travellers wake up, they will find a message sent to every bracelet in the city:
As per the agreement between the gods and their Travellers, all persons within Asgard are humbly requested at the castle courtyard for enlistment in the Holy City's war efforts. Every individual is invited to find their resolve and seek out their purpose; this is the final stand in Ragnarok, and your help is needed now more than ever.

Enlistment is mandatory! Please see your local officials for more information.
A friendly if not a touch formal invitation to what will essentially be Asgard's job fair! A mandatory job fair. This is why we can't have nice things.

The castle courtyard and the streets leading into it will be crowded with bustling natives and several booths, not uncommon in appearance to the many festivals they've had over the last two years. This time, however, there is no music or celebration to be had. Everyone is hard at work organising their efforts for the war and doing their level best to assist in the transition.

Day 462 ( June 11/12 )
The fair will continue for two days, to give everyone time to get down there and make their decisions. Anyone that hasn't signed up by the end of this day will be visited at home by a city rep and a few guards that will politely ask them to register for a group and weaponry if they plan to carry it. Refusal will land them in jail for the day, where they will still be politely asked to please, seriously, just pick something. Anything. Uncle Odin wants you.

At the end of the fair, there will be food and drinks to thank the Travellers for their support and cooperation. Throughout the entirety of the event and for the rest of their stay, the natives will be more reverent and grateful than ever than the Travellers have chosen to stay and fight at their side. They will do anything they can to help them win this war; this evening will be one of camaraderie and appreciation for the past, present, and future sacrifices to save the World Tree.

[ OOC NOTES: This is the mingle log for the Good God, Y'all event. Remember that all characters must be signed up for at least one group by June 12. Information on the currently established groups can be found here; sign-ups are in the comments section on the same post. Please put [OPEN/CLOSED] along with the time/location in the title of your comment. Let us know if you have any questions! ]

Well, you know what they say, there's plenty of time to rest after you're dead. [Though it was perfectly possible he was already dead and this was some kind of afterlife. Who knew anymore?]

Freyr... [He'd done his homework since he'd been here, so at least he knew what all the houses stood for.] The house of the poet. I have a friend who while a warrior, has the soul of a poet. [He missed G'Kar. He would have loved this place.]
bythewaves: (second greatest singer)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-06-17 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
[ a low amused chuckle ] Aye, there will be rest enough then.

Your friend sounds like someone who I would have liked to meet. I am more a bard than a poet, but both schools like closely intertwined. Like your friend, I would have been happier if left to my music but [ a shrug and Maglor indicates the longsword and the knife ]

Oh G'Kar would love to be left to his words, his philosophy, but like so many, he had another calling. [Without the Narn, the world would be in a far worse state.] But he appreciates all kinds of arts - including the art of war.
bythewaves: (weary)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-06-19 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
The art of war... [ Maglor muses sadly and his eyes are very, very old ] I suppose there is something of an art to it - the terrible dance of battle. Mostly, I suppose, I find it a terrible waste. I know war must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all - yet I do not love it, even so.

The Narn used to be peaceful, a race of gentle farmers, but they were thrust into war. They have unfortunately learned about war the hard way, and have rather taken to it. Both sad, and a delight to see, I suppose.
bythewaves: (bloodstained)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-06-20 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Maglor's flinch is tiny, and his smile is sad. "Ah. That I can understand, for so were we, before... and now there are few races that can match us, in war. Admittedly, we have something of an advantage there."
onewho_willbe: (Confused)

[personal profile] onewho_willbe 2014-06-22 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, a lot of races have to learn the hard way." Earth did, in a way, after the Earth-Minbari war. From almost extinction to becoming almost the pre-eminent race - certainly the war with the Shadows was establishing them as some of the best combatants out there. "But it can be fascinating to watch."
bythewaves: (despair)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-06-22 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
A soft sardonic chuckle. "Aye, but few learn because their own kin turn against them" So softly he says it, and his eyes are old, as he rubs his right hand as if it pains him.

"I suppose it can be interesting... or tragic, depending on how the story goes."
onewho_willbe: (Default)

[personal profile] onewho_willbe 2014-06-24 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah. Yes, I can imagine that would be... difficult." Horrible to live though - and he'd seen his fair share of horrible things. "Let's hope for the interesting more often than not."
bythewaves: (look down)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-06-24 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"If there are any who would heed such prayers, let us pray that it be so." Maglor nods grimly, and does not mention that it was his family and he who turned on their kin.

"I will hope to see you in battle then. What are the weapons of your time like?"
onewho_willbe: (Default)

[personal profile] onewho_willbe 2014-06-24 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Advanced, more advanced than here. We don't use projectiles anymore, not unless we really have to. More dangerous, of course. You can fight from a distance." Of course, he'd no idea what he was going to face here, but he was sure he'd adapt.
bythewaves: (sword)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-06-25 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah, like the Doctor and his ilk? Mn, I think Master Irving called the 'stazers' - some form of...compressed light?"

Maglor indicates his weaponry wryly "As you can see, I am from a simpler time."
onewho_willbe: (Looking skyward)

[personal profile] onewho_willbe 2014-06-27 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"We used phased plasma. It uses super heated helium, so not quite the same. The... Doctor?" Who was that? He was curious now.

He gave Maglor a smile. "I can only imagine what it's like. If our technology goes wrong... it could be deadly. Simpler times wouldn't always be a bad thing."
bythewaves: (childhood peace)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-06-28 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Maglor chuckles softly. "You will have to explain more thoroughly I think - or point me to where I might learn more in the library. But aye, sometimes the old ways are...mm, I hesitate to call them reliable. More known, perhaps?"
onewho_willbe: (Default)

[personal profile] onewho_willbe 2014-06-30 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Honestly, I'm not sure the library will be of much help," he said with a smile. He'd already looked, a little. So little apparently was known of his own time.

"More known is a way of putting it. We take the risks, knowing that it could kill us if it goes wrong, but knowing that if it goes right, we're furthering mankind more than any of us could have imagined."
bythewaves: (earth air sea)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-07-01 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
"That has always been what I loved about your people. Men have ever striven forward, while we Eldar look back - they tell me you reach the stars, even. I hope to see that, one day."

Maglor tips his head up as if he might see the stars even now, despite the bright sunshine. "Aye, perhaps one day I shall." Looking back at Sheridan he shrugs. "I envy your people, my friend, who have never lost that spirit of adventure."
onewho_willbe: (Earthforce uniform)

[personal profile] onewho_willbe 2014-07-02 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I live amongst the stars," he said with a smile. The view out from the CinC was something he missed desperately, just watching the stars hanging there. "I work on a space station, about eleven light years from Earth.

"Well, the spirit of adventure does unfortunately come at a cost. The bureaucracy is a nightmare."
bythewaves: (look up)

watch him fanboy about stars

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-07-03 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Maglor brightens visibly at that. "Truly? Ah, that is a marvel! Fortunate you are indeed! There have been others here who have told me the same, yet I marvel every time. Do you know the good Doctor McCoy? He too, he says, lives and works amongst them. Such tales you must have!"

The mention of bureaucracy gets an amused snort. "Is it not always so? However far we go, the politics will always follow."
onewho_willbe: (Default)

Dawwwwwwwww

[personal profile] onewho_willbe 2014-07-03 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Politics are never far from me, unfortunately. I'm Earth's ambassador, and am responsible for overseeing negotiations between several races go... well. Go. They'll never go smoothly."

He shook his head. "No, I don't know Doctor McCoy, but it doesn't surprise me that there are other people who live out in the stars here. Has to happen somewhere, after all."
bythewaves: (look up)

He likes stars okay =p

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-07-04 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
"An ambassador even!" Maglor chuckles. "I feel I should be more respectful sir, for tis a terrifying job you have. Aye, sadly even among kin tensions may make negotiations difficult - when you are talking those of different race and culture, it adds to it." Maglor and Maedhros were always the politic ones, after all.

"Mmn, I will introduce you, if I have the chance. He is a good man - a tad irascible, but many healers are, I've found - there is never enough hands for their work, after all."
onewho_willbe: (Default)

[personal profile] onewho_willbe 2014-07-05 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, it's not a job I want." He was military, through and through, and hated the politics that came with it. "It just came with my assignment."

He nodded. "It's always good to know who your medics are. You never know when you might need one." And let's face it, he sounded somewhat like Steven, who he did miss, along with everyone else.
bythewaves: (brothers)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-07-05 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"I find myself leery of any who would take the job willingly" Maglor agrees. "I saw too much of such work myself to be doing to enjoy it, and learnt swiftly to distrust those who seemed too eager."

Unfortunately he was also very good at it, so he never was able to get away until the end.

"True enough - a sword is fine and good, but it has little use if the arm to which it belongs cannot lift it."
onewho_willbe: (Huh?)

[personal profile] onewho_willbe 2014-07-06 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Unfortunately, some people are too good at it, and those are the ones you have to watch out for." He knew he was talking about himself; he may have been a soldier, but he wasn't the son of a diplomat for nothing. Some of his dad's skills had rubbed off on him - though, unfortunately, not his skill in farming.

Or maybe that was a good thing.

"Yeah, keep your healers sweet, and you should be okay. Hopefully."
bythewaves: (here i stand)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-07-07 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Beware those with a smile and the hidden knife?" Maglor quips and smiles a little grimly. How many had cause to regret that they underestimated Feanor's second son? Dismissing him as Maedhros's shadow, as the gentle bard, only to learn differently all too soon.

"Well said! I would not like to run afoul of one, certainly."
onewho_willbe: (Default)

[personal profile] onewho_willbe 2014-07-14 06:56 am (UTC)(link)

"Oh, always. That doesn't change in the future. I don't think it ever will." Not with the likes of the Centauri around, and their version of politics.

"No. Mine is a good friend, but when he's on the warpath... You don't want to get in his way."
