- Day 415 (Mar. 9/10)
- Not long after the message from the gods on the bracelets, all NPC shops in town will begin shutting down. It is late evening when the city's Natives begin heading toward Gefion Park, some alone, some clustered in small groups, but it seems like citizens of Asgard of all ages are headed that way. It is just before sunset when all of the gods and several thousand natives will stand grouped around the shore of the park's lake. Thor, looking oddly somber, will move to stand on a small podium, voice tight but magically amplified. His posture is straight, head held high, and he will cut a striking image as he speaks with a firm and magically amplified voice:
"We may be the gods of this realm, but we would be nothing without both of you: our people, and our visitors. Even in times of darkness, we mustn't allow ourselves to forget how brightly our lights can shine. In times of weakness and exhaustion, we only need cling to the memory of how strong we truly are. We will fight for the lost, and we will fight for each other. Until my father returns, I will act in his stead. We will continue to move ahead, if only because there is too much to lose if we don't. Salvation is within our grasp, and I will do everything I can to make sure we attain it."
Here Thor will clear his throat, pausing just long enough to wonder how apparent it is that Freyr wrote most of this speech.
"But now I invite you to lay your offerings into the longboats, offerings to the Natives of this world that have lost their lives in this war. Their sacrifices were not in vain, nor shall they be forgotten. In their names, we shall fight for Asgard, and for every world represented here, and for the countless that aren't."
The moment that the newly crowned Prince Regent stops speaking, Natives will place clothes and food and other trinkets inside the boat. Any Traveller with offerings will be given the chance to lay them in the boat then, before Hel sends it off to the center of the lake. It will stall there before bursting into bright flame. Smaller, match-sized flames will light all across the lake, one for every native soul that has left Asgard for Niflheim in the last two years, and they will not extinguish even in the light rainfall that begins into the evening.
After the flames are lit, however, the natives will be opening several dozen casks of different wines, meads, and ales. There will be bottles of harder liquors passed around and glasses given freely to anyone within arm's reach of a native. Time for a bonfire in the park! Anything is free game for this: there will be dancing, eating, body painting, the weaving of flowers into people's hair or into crowns, pretty much anything that is loose and vaguely intimate. The only thing that remains undisturbed is the lake, where the fires burn ceaselessly above the water. This is their farewell; they will drink, tell stories, and laugh their way all through the night. - Day 416 ( Mar. 11/12 )
- The next morning, most of the natives will still be in the park, making sure none of that pesky alcohol remains in those barrels. They will take this second day to relax and clean up the park while they continue to drink, singing hymns and generally lending a hand to one another. Where yesterday was a big party, this is more like communal R&R. About halfway through the day, flowers of all types imaginable will begin to sprout from the ground. Many of them will sing along with the Native's hymns of remembrance, though they will linger after.
This is actually our Holes event for the month of March! These flowers will not just sprout at Gefion Park, however! When they first appear on Day 416, they will actually spring up just about everywhere, dirt or not. They may appear on a table, off a wall, or rooted in someone's freshly prepared sandwich. The flowers not in dirt will wilt after about a day. Following their first appearance, these flowers will continue to grow in the city anywhere flowers can grow.
Back at the party, however, everyone is on equal footing and gathered to respect their loved ones. For the time being, nothing else really matters.
They'll go back to their regularly scheduled monotony by sundown, the boat of offerings finally removed from the lake, though the candlelight flames will remain throughout the night and disappear by sunrise. In thanks for their support and continued sacrifice, the Travellers will find one gift from home in their rooms at midnight.

Lavi | OPEN | both days
[He was offered a small paper boat by someone wrapped in grey, to light himself if he had someone dear to him missing. For the moment Lavi just holds onto it, fiddling with the delicate wings. It was finely crafted for being made out of paper, even if he had lost someone it would almost be a shame to send the boat off.
The next person he passes offers him a tankard but he politely refuses, he was curious by far but being a Bookman meant abstaining. Lavi pulls his scarf around his neck a bit tighter in the chill air, looking around for a bit of high ground.
He teters a moment on his toes and rocks back onto his heels, into someone behind him. The redhead glances back.]
Sorry, didn't meant to.
[Day 416]
[A rather bedraggled redhead is making his way back towards the park the next morning. Getting up early is not one of his favorite things in the world, much less after he'd stayed up most of the night.
He had heard one of the natives mention the clean up the night before and decided it might be a good way to get to know his fellow Travelers. Or perhaps find a job with one of the natives, never hurt either to put his ear to the ground and listen to the gossip. It was one way to catch up to the goings on of Asgard without pouring over the feeds.
415!
It was no surprise if Lavi backed into the boy. (He might have heard a startled yelp from the brunet at the contact) But he relaxed a little bit when he recognized this face.
So at that apology, he shook his head. (Maybe even bowed his head a bit. Japanese etiquette won't leave Shinji even when in Asgard)]
I-It's alright! I should have watched where I was going...
no subject
Grinning a little as he sees it's Shinji, moving to wrap an arm over his shoulders. Hello,
friendfamiliar face! :D]Hey, no. It was totally my fault, yeah? Was trying to peer over giganticus' shoulder here. [Thumbing at a rather large native who pays the redhead no mind.]
Enjoying things, Shinji?
no subject
At least the child native that made the flower crown on Shinji's head and painted the little hedgehog/porcupine creature on his cheek was someone who didn't intimidate Shinji here, so far. Lavi being the second person, now.
He slowly nods, the flower crown moving a little. (The kid native did make it a little too big, but Shinji didn't say anything.) He's been managing to avoid the drunks and dancing. :P]
It's. um. different than kind of funerals I'm used to.
How about you? I don't think we saw each other after last time...
no subject
Where as Lavi hasn't a bit of the celebration on him, boat aside, he's politely declined everything he could. Lavi'd probably wonder what about himself could have intimidated Shinji if he did. It's no fun scaring away friends, especially timid ones like Shinji.
He grins.] Yeah, the Norse celebrate a bit too much. But then again, they're sending their dead off to Valhalla where they'll be healed, well fed, and having a good time.
Last time...? Oh, you mean from when I was here before? I don't remember it so you'll have to refresh my memory. [Lavi's grin looks only slightly forced, he doesn't like being reminded of the things he can't remember. But now he knows for sure that he and Shinji met before.
At least that explains why the shy guy keeps coming around him, Lavi knows it's not his loud, attention-drawing personality.]
no subject
At least he thinks it's water...)It's always better to observe, Shinji found. Back in his own world, that's how he lived his days. Observed around him with headphones in ears and music blocking people/people's noise from reaching to him. Not getting involved. He found it's harder to do that in Asgard, the longer he's stayed here, though. Surely, Lavi will find this out soon?
He gave a slightly sad smile. It's alright if you don't remember. Especially Shinji. He's not that important. ]
It wasn't like I did a whole lot with you, at that time. It's alright. But I could try? [He didn't allow you in before. It took you leaving for him to realize "I could have had a friend..." because of how he kept withdrawing into himself.]
In the mean time, I could try to help you understand this place better?
no subject
(Maybe it's watered down?)See, he's never found the fun in observing without hearing what was said. That's half the context right there, it'd just be suspicious whenever you saw guys exchanging crates without knowing one was for food and the other was guns. Then realizing one country is funding another's war while feeding their enemy's people.
Lavi's getting that feeling already, are you kidding him? He's seen the others and their memorials to those they've lost.
It's still annoying to the redhead. >: But he'll not make his mood dour around the other.] We'd just met then? [A small, relieved sigh.],/small> Good, I don't feel overly guilty now about having totally broken your heart or something. [Teasing grin.]
But I'd love to have a teacher, yeah? I'm all about learning and this place is way different than I imagined Asgard to be.
no subject
Perhaps it's because he's an introvert who finds life had been manageable (even if lonely) by not getting involved, you know? When you live in a fairly lively place like modern-day Japan, you need something to give the "Don't bother me" vibe. But being in Asgard is showing him it's ok to open his eyes and ears to the rest of the world.
Oh. Oh, Lavi. Shinji will just resist the urge to roll his eyes. There might be a slight smile of his own on his face. ]
We just worked together at the teahouse in Odin. So I'll manage. The kitchen I work in has been much quieter without a certain redhead waiter-host peeking in every now and then. [ His smile turns more knowing. ]
I was also bothered with not remembering things other people somehow did when I arrived. I didn't exactly know what to do, at first. Someone else might know more than me, but... I'm around if there's anything you want to ask.
SORRY FOR THE TAG MUCK UP.
They're peas in the same pod, aren't they? Though Lavi didn't have a shield like Shinji, those magical headphones of his. Just the way he carried himself sometimes had to be enough. But it's always good to change, to open up, he learned that in the Order.
Perking.] Tea house? Were there lots of pretty girls there? Think they'd hire me back? [Sob. Lavi...]
So then you were here before as well and don't remember it? [He knows it's not a special case sort of thing but he feels better actually knowing he's not alone in this.]
Anyway, you said kitchen? So you can cook?
I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE. SO IT HAD TO BE ME. ):
I think I spend more time in my kitchen than looking at the girls there, really. I-I'm sorry...! I concentrate on what I do because cooking is something I'm decent at. It just sort of stayed with me when I came here, I guess.
[His bashful smile slightly turned down into a straight line. ]
And some things didn't stay, obviously. I learned about things I did here that I didn't remember ever doing and how awful I was towards someone I cared about. I hated it. I hated being here. So I'm sorry if it all bothers you, too...
lol Nope, it was me.
Sounds like we need to change a bit of that, maybe come out and see how they're enjoying the meals you made. [Wink wink, nudge nudge?] But it's good to have a skill like that, you'll never go hungry!
I'm only bothered by not remembering, yeah? I'm used to remembering everything, it's just who I am. But hey, maybe that you was at a point in your life where this was the worst place to be?
Re: lol Nope, it was me.
Around the time he saw you last, he kind of was at a bad place? Anyone would be unsure for a while if you came to this strange place and saw the person you killed here.As if his smile could look anymore forced. (That sounds like something Kaji would have told him...) This is a typical teen who is awkward around girls. But he nods. Advice... never hurt anyone, right?
Besides. Something made him curious. He honed in on the last part.]
Remembering everything? ...That's even possible? [Kind of like this Evangelion pilot left here without his Eva? So he's not a pilot, anymore. He's just a kid who didn't know how go about this strange place. That bothered him a little.]
no subject
'Course it is, there are folks around the world who remember everything. Maybe not in as much detail as I might, but they can.
