END OF ARC 2: PART ONE OF THREE

Who: ANYONE going on the infiltration into Thrymheim!
What: Lots of travelling and also rescuing Freyr's soul.
When: Days 278 - 279 ( June 10 - 13 )
Where: Asgard, Thrymheim, and the road inbetween.
Rating: PG-13. Anything that might go higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!

[ Before even the first crack of sunlight over the horizon on Day 278, every bracelet in the city will give a quiet blip! as they activate with a short mass text from the gods:
The time to act has come. Gather at the Gate of Frost by the Sun's first rays if you will, and be prepared to strike at the heart of ice. There is no room for failure.
Exactly as the message implies: it's time to ship off to Thrymheim. Gear up in your best winter clothes and bring whatever weaponry you need; there are wagons thinly concealed and waiting for you at the southern gate that leads to the home of the Frost Giants. Inside the wagons will be those portable heaters that you guys bought in Utgard, along with spare gloves, jackets and scarves for anyone that foolishly believed summer might touch the kingdom of ice. Travellers can also find food rations to last a week alongside a generous amount of medical supplies that may or may not be a bit foreboding.

The caravan will leave at precisely 5AM, driven by the barest amount of Natives to keep travel at a minimum. Secrecy is of the utmost importance, and a severe silence will fall across the few sitting in the back of the wagons with the Travellers. They know the weight of this mission: if you fail, Freyr's soul will remain trapped forever. It is dangerous and no one's lives are guaranteed, so prepare yourselves for a fight quite unlike any other this far.

As you travel further from Asgard, you might notice the terrain getting a bit more uneven as the wagons move through undeveloped areas. There may be the odd village noticeable in the far off distance, but they are nowhere close enough to make out any distinguishable details because you don't want them distinguishing anything about you in return. These villages are few and far between, and grow even less in number the closer the caravan gets to Thrymheim. The terrain goes from rocky but arable to colder and harder, the temperature dropping increasingly as the earth grows solid and unforgiving, eventually peppering with light snowfall even in the midst of Yggdrasil's summer.

It will take two full days to reach Thrymheim travelling at as fast a pace as they can without wearing out the horses or catching unwanted attention. They will make short stops to feed and brush the horses, switch drivers, and allow for any necessary relief - but these breaks will last no longer than ten to twenty minutes at most. Simple meals will be served by the Natives thrice daily, and Travellers are welcome to attempt sleep on one of the meager pallets stocked up if they think they can manage it. Space is not abundant and neither is time. ]

[ OOC NOTES: This is part one of three for the Save Our Souls plot! Please put the day/location in the title of your comment along with [OPEN/CLOSED]. The second log can be found over here and the third and final log can be found here. Let us know if you have any questions! ]

[ But, naturally, Sherlock still gets a bit of a look for that humming.

John smiles wryly. ]

Doesn't that just mean more colour for the city?

...thing is, not everybody there can see the ghosts, or tell that they're there. It's actually kind of a rare thing, and while we've got stuff like wizards, vampires, werewolves-- they keep that covered up too, you know? So a lot of people, probably the majority of people, they have no idea.

Which means that if you get caught talking to what looks like thin air? The majority of people are going to think you're totally nuts. And that kind of happens a lot.

[He shifts to adjust his coat so he can bundle up a bit more, curling back up onto himself.]

Most of 'em don't really believe in the weird stuff, and the weird stuff's generally okay with that.

[ she smiles; he is clever for his age and she would argue that some loved kings are tyrants for they only appeared to be love but he sparks her curiosity on another subject. ]

Have you lost it?
conquering: (❝Moving space but not in time❞)

Once; she sent Frosts Giants to the city during the big battle during which Freyr passed. In my own realm, no. I have seen other beasts. None of them was quite a sight -

[ she smiles. ]

Did he! That must be a tale.

So most people just go around, missing out on all the ghosts? And the wizards don't mind being covered up? So everyone misses out on the magic and the shapeshifters? That's way more boring than I thought it'd be. I'd hate being that regular person totally oblivious to all the dangerous things going on juuuust out of sight.

[He wondered how'd you'd keep a wizard hidden anyway. Wouldn't all the mysterious fires and neighbors turning into frogs sort of give it away?]

But even if you look like a lunatic doing it, at least you know what's going on! Could you sic your ghost buddies on the non-believers?
conquering: (❝or it never was❞)

I will show you. It does not involve kissing, worry not.

[ a small smile as concentrates, creates a shadow in the form of a woman. ]

I can only control one and it is fickle at best. I admit I care very little for the gift they have given me.

[personal profile] averagemedium 2013-06-26 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Might've done that a few times, yeah.

[Okay, he can't help but grin a bit at the thought. He likes to think he's not a vindictive person at all, really-- but man, sometimes people just have it coming.]

Usually only if they've irritated both me and the ghosts, but when they do, well. A couple of 'em really enjoy going all horror movie on houses. Making stuff creak at night, turning things off and on, slamming doors, that whole business-- they do it to me, too, but I'm used to it. Kind of a pain when they turn the tv off in the middle of a show, but I can live with it, y'know? They need company, what with how few people see them.

Hey, what's good being a ghost if you can't have fun scaring people with it, right? Especially if they can't see it coming, nya ha!

...Buuut, they should know better than to bug the one person who can hear 'em out! Just because they're dead, doesn't mean they can't wait their turn. Still, I'd love hanging out with ghosts. Hanging out with dead things in general is great, but hearing them talk back? That'd be awesome. Whenever you wanted to watch your- tea-thing [Yeah he has no idea what a TV is. Or movies. Electricity and indoor plumbing still kind of freaked him out.] I could keep them company! We could talk about death and whatever else spirits like chatting about.
historyrabbit: (headrub φ If you love me let me go)

[personal profile] historyrabbit 2013-06-26 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, what do you believe lives on or in the moon?

[He shrugs.] Rice goes really good with yakiniku. There's none of that here either, not like at home.
historyrabbit: (unsure φ No it's nothing wrong with me)

[personal profile] historyrabbit 2013-06-26 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[True, but then he would write that although they were loved their deeds were not well liked.]

No, nothing like that. Hard to find out who you are when you're focused on learning and having no opinions. No feelings.
timaeus_testified: (It's that simple.)

you're so patient and sweet ;; thank you

[personal profile] timaeus_testified 2013-06-27 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
[He hears worry in her voice, the first flickers of doubt. Dirk sheathes his sword as his side and holds the knife out to her. In its sheathe, it seems insignificant. Small.

But small things can create ripples of change that can be felt through out time. He nods once before he speaks.]
Hopefully, you will never have to use it.

You're not the only one here. What you can do is far more important than bearing a blade. [He takes a step forward as he breathes.] If you see him, watch my bro's back for me. Both of them if you can.

I'm on the team going into the thick of it. Or I'd guard all three of you.

I don't know if they're as big or bigger than the Frost Giants will be, but they're about as big as our stableboy, Hodor and maybe bigger! He's at least seven feet tall!

[Arya raises an arm, attempting to measure it out for her to demonstrate.]
lethechained: (Olderne! Looking kinda grim)

djkfdgbjfdkkjgd ;A: !!! Nooo, thank YOU for saying that and for continuing the thread. <333

[She reaches to take the sheathed knife. For as small as it is, her hands feel even smaller when she grasps it. She is not a big person, not an imposing figure by any estimation. Regardless of whether or not compensation for that would help, the knife definitely won't fulfill that role.]

[Still, that phrase does apply to her, too. More so in her own world, with her own powers, with her own reach - but that matters little in a place like this.]
Hopefully.

[And she tries to smile, though she sobers again quickly as she listens to him intently. His reassurances are... comforting. The first one is her own, in a way; that she will not be alone is a fact she both holds dear and keeps to the front of her mind. Her eyes follow him, and at his request, she nods unhesitatingly even as she tucks away that 'both of them' in the back of her mind.]

[What she means to say waits until he's finished, and by then it's tempered slightly with that concerned look that takes over her expression at the last part.]

... Of course. I would never have it any other way. I'll do my best to look after them. [And she pauses, trying to ease the tension out of her brow as she sets about addressing that last fact.]

It's very brave of you to go. I'll... be looking for you, when we leave. [So try not to disappoint her, okay? Or at least, that seems to be the attempted sentiment, even if she doesn't mean truly to bind him with any sort of guilt, especially regarding herself.] And... thank you. Both for what you're going to do and what you would do. [There's not even the slightest hint of ambiguity about her gratitude; she means it wholeheartedly.]
bloodypocket: (♭ | legato.)

[personal profile] bloodypocket 2013-06-27 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Mm. [But it's the best he can give, he's not going to guarantee a future when he doesn't even know where he will be in it.]

Rest, for now. We still have another day's travel to go, and the weather will become colder.
talking_dead: (pic#5868348)

[personal profile] talking_dead 2013-06-27 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, me too. [Since his grandma was the only one who really understood him before things went bad.]

At least I don't have to worry about bullying here. I was really afraid before, but now it seems stupid that I worried so much.
saving_sound: (I am so sorry!)

[personal profile] saving_sound 2013-06-27 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
[She shakes her head, although she does curl up a little tighter.]

I fell asleep earlier because I didn't get to very much at night, but... I don't think I can do it again.

[Too much worry. Too many nerves.]
saving_sound: (Master and Teacher)

[personal profile] saving_sound 2013-06-27 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
[She nods with understanding.]

...When I came here, I was a little worried too. That people would get annoyed if I started crying like back at home.

[She pulls her legs up close, curling up a bit under her cloak.]

But... lots of people here seemed to like me instead. And they kept telling me crying was okay, too.

They're all really kind here, aren't they?
bloodypocket: (♭ | dopo.)

[personal profile] bloodypocket 2013-06-27 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
Then do you want me to stay here and keep you company? [He didn't have anything else to attend to, and now that he knew she was here he would prefer that she stay in his sight.]
saving_sound: (That does not look very good...)

[personal profile] saving_sound 2013-06-27 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
You aren't too busy?
bloodypocket: (♭ | lontano.)

[personal profile] bloodypocket 2013-06-27 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
Not so much that I can't stay here with you. I already made my preparations. [Even if he has to account for her now.]
saving_sound: (I don't understand at all...)

[personal profile] saving_sound 2013-06-27 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Well... She can't really argue against that. Instead, she wraps her arms around her knees close under the cloak, leaning back against the side of the wagon.]

If... If you're really sure.
freezerburned: (more real help X-()

[personal profile] freezerburned 2013-06-27 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
Don't expect anything.

[He frowns.]

Just do whatever you can. I'll back you up until you go in, and as soon as you come out. Got it?
hollowchild: (that matters more than survival)

[personal profile] hollowchild 2013-06-27 09:44 am (UTC)(link)
Mm. I know you will.

[she puts a hand on his shoulder, briefly, squeezes. she's not patronizing even a little, she really does know he has her back as much as he's able for as long as he can. she trusts him.]

I would like to say the same, but that's not my role in this fight.

[personal profile] 2cool4guardian 2013-06-27 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[He'll gladly reinforce that, even if "kid" is not his real age. If this is how Natasha behaves everyday, Jack isn't sure he would want her around the actual kids.]

Most people will probably just run back to the wagons the minute we set foot on the snow. [Bunch of babies! That aside, Jack is now curious.] Any other lessons, miss red?

[personal profile] 2cool4guardian 2013-06-27 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Can't know if you don't try. [Without hesitation now, his hand goes back to her head, ruffling her hair this time.] You just need to believe.
