Day 337/8 | Kanji Tatsumi | Persona 4 | Freyr House | anywhere?

[Now, this's been a day for the records. One second, walking home from school, the next... the same familiar surroundings that anyone here's seen. The same greyed out room. The same talk.

But as far as getting dumped into strange new worlds go... Kanji here's seen worse. At least this place isn't threatening to throw the worst parts of his subconscious into the locals' faces... it's just a city. A strange one, but a city. A reasonable place... a real place.

So it is that over these first few days it's going to be possible to find a rather confused young man sitting around, wrangling with his map, trying to work out how to get around here, and possibly how to get back to the hall his lodgings are in. Small town boy like him? He's so not used to the city life... Honestly, he wishes that he isn't going to have to be - but he's not the sort of guy who's going to break down in the face of a challenge, he's telling himself. Not going to give in.

He can get through this.
(Besides, he already did all the shouting he can at the poor maids.)
But this place is just so big... how the heck can he navigate?]

[You're in luck, Kanji! A certain idol is busy making preparations for her date auction, and she just happens to spot you as she's walking by the theatre in Freyr district.

She stops, stares, and then calls out after him.]

No way. Kanji! Kanji-kun!!

[Hold on real tight to that map of yours, or you'll go toppling over with the force of her hug!]

[Okay. He's seeing things, right? He's got to be seeing things. Because there is no way that that's Rise over there, just someone who looks a whole lot like her. It'd be too much of a coincidence, wouldn't it? That's what he tells himself as he returns to map-reading.
But as she lets out a yell, he stops, stares - the words are almost involuntary on his part-]

Holy sh-!

[...Nope. He's still going to be falling over from that hug when it hits. Supersonic idols weren't on his plans for today.
(Not that he's complaining.)

Eventually, he'll choke out-]

Rise-chan? How the hell?

[She lets go of him and pouts, hands on her hips.]

That's the kind of greeting you give me? Geez, you're so cold, Kanji!

[At least he knows her name! That's definitely a step up from last time.]

[Oh crap, oh crap- he flails a bit, here, face falling and hands thrown up in the air, all defensive-]

C'mon-! This is kinda... [He calms down slightly before continuing. Not much, but still.] I'm still in shock here, okay? I mean, I wasn't expectin' to see you here...

[Just gonna let Kanji stew a little bit longer because she can ♥ ]

Aaaaaand? I didn't expect to see you either, but I still greeted you!

[Oh, come on, Rise! Give him a break... yep, definitely shoeing stewing here.]

I'm sorry, okay? This is just kind of all a bit weird...

[He pauses for a moment, only now thinking to ask the obvious question.]

...when d'you get here, anyway?

[Minato had been doing his own exploring since he hadn't been as familiar with the city as he should be. Still, he was going to do his best to help someone out whenever they needed it.]

Need help?

[K-kanji, you are so tall too. ;o;]

[At the sound of the unfamiliar voice, Kanji puts the map aside, looks over - huh. Well, he's not going to complain at the offer, even if he does look a spot awkward about it...]

Yeah. Could use it, man.

[Minato nodded, glancing at the map in Kanji's hand for a second.]

Where did you want to go?

Well... I just came from the hall at Freyr. Trying to find what's around here, right? But I think I kinda went a bit too far 'cause I don't recognise things here at all.

[How he can got have spectacularly out of his way as he seems to have, he's got no clue at all...]

[Minato hadn't met anyone from Freyr House until now. First time for everything!]

It's okay. I can show you how to get back to Freyr District. You're in Sigyn District now.

[He pointed out the hospital in the distance. It was a good indication of which district they were currently in.]

Ah. Right...

[Okay, that's a landmark at least. He's going to need to get them down soon enough, as the map obviously isn't working out for him.]

Man, these names are gonna take getting used to.

[She probably should have planned this a little better. It's always very tempting to buy a ton of things all at once so she won't need to make extra trips, but the downside is, the bag usually ends up way too big for her to see very well over it.

Unfortunately, this is precisely the mistake she's made today, so Kanji might feel a soft thump on his side as a small girl walks right into him.]

Ah-- S-sorry!

[Distracted as he is, he doesn't notice the girl until it's too late. His first reaction's a startled snap-]

Hey! Watch where you- [-As soon as he realises who it is, though, he jumps and throws his hands up in apology, dropping the map as he does so. Dammit, he can't be mad at someone like that, can he?]

Uh - I mean - sorry! [He's a little quieter as he goes on-] It's okay, kid!

[She gives a faint squeak of terror at his first reply, taking a step back in her fright. But then he starts acting sort of... nicer?

What is going on here??]

U-uh... No, it was my fault. I'm really, really sorry!

[Please don't be mad at her!]

Whoa, whoa - I'm not mad, alright?

[Oh, crap. He looks a little bit worried, even.]

You're okay. It was an accident, right? I mean... whoa. How much stuff've you got in there?

You're sure?

[She would hate to make anybody angry. Um. Especially when they are somewhat intimidating.]

It's just... I bought a bunch again, even though it's hard to carry, but... I-it'll be fine! I've done this before!

Day 337 | Baldr District | Afternoon

[Akihiko isn’t running around the city for once, but he is training, of course. Or at least, he’s trying to find a new closer location to train, since he doesn’t live in the Thor house anymore.

Not too far out from his apartment, he sees a guy sitting on the bench nearby, fiddling around with his bracelet. Either he’s having trouble with figuring something out, or he’s a newcomer. Akihiko isn’t sure which one it is, but certainly doesn’t mind stopping by to see if he can help.]

Yo. [He greets in a friendly tone, lifting his gloved hand in a slight wave.] Something wrong with your bracelet?

[It'll take Kanji a little while to even register that this guy's talking to him, but when he does, he looks up - a little surprised that he's getting that kind of help off someone. Not that he's entirely complaining, mind, just surprised...]

Huh? No, nothing's wrong. I'm just trying to work out where everything's meant to be on it.

Oh, I see. [Akihiko stops by his side, getting just close enough to bend over and look down at the map on his bracelet.]

Okay, so they’ve got all the districts on the map, and most of the important landmarks. Hospital, library, bank, arena, and other places like that. [As he’s listing those out, his hand moves across the plane, pointing at each little marker.] This district’s Baldr. Where’re you trying to go?

Baldr, huh? Got it.

[He's nodding as he looks and as Akihiko runs down the list.]

Honestly, I wasn't really trying to 'go' anywhere. But I'm gonna need to know how to get back to the welcome hall at Freyr sometime. Think I've been at this a while. I mean, that's ... a coupla districts away, if I'm reading this right?

[That's an understatement. He's getting pretty hungry, his feet are starting to ache...]

Yeah, it is. [Akihiko nods in agreement, then grins a little.] Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it. You can always cut through some of the districts. Just depends on where you’re going. Think of it as exercising.

[He straightens up, and starts idly stretching his arms out.] You’re new, huh? You looked, uh, kinda lost. If you’ve got any questions, I can try to answer ‘em.

[Don’t tell Akihiko that, or he just might carry you over there. After getting a bowl of ramen. He would hardly turn down an opportunity to eat.]

Hey, are you lost?

[Ryoji doesn't know much about this place himself, but he knows what it's like to be the newcomer, trying to find your way around all on your own. He hurries over, glancing at him from over the top of the map, though he needs to stand up on his tiptoes to see eye to eye with him. Geez, this guy's big...]

[Kanji lowers the map as soon as he sees that he's got company. Not going to make this guy tiptoe around and all.]

...Yeah, a bit. I'm just trying to get my head around how things're laid out.

[Dammit, this is so complicated compared to Inaba... along the floodplain, through the shopping district, easy. This... how many reference points, how many things are there...]
