Because I'm in the wrong house, [Whale remarked, with a frown.] Look, I've been listening to conversations and reading the bracelet internet ever since I got here. Sigyn's the house with the healing powers. I'm a doctor, I should get healing powers.

( okay, now that's kind of hilarious. )

If you're any good, you wouldn't need the healing powers, would you?

Of course I'm good, [said with a little scoff because hello there ego.] I just thought that if we're going to be stuck with arbitrary powers, healing's better for me than flying.

[personal profile] sufferably 2014-02-09 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you really pulled the short straw on that one.

( flying is the absolute worst. it's probably even more awfully--and he'd have thought that was impossible--without a shuttle or ship keeping you in the air. )

But that doesn't mean you should just trust some mystical healing magic. Seems kind of sketchy, if you ask me.

[personal profile] galvanist 2014-02-09 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Are you kidding? I don't trust any of this. After all, all magic comes with a price.

[he knows that he is parroting Mr. Gold from home and it absolutely kills him that he's doing it but really, experience has proven Gold true.]

[personal profile] sufferably 2014-02-09 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
( science is logical, mccoy thinks smugly, and then he imagines spock's face and actually wants to shoot himself in the foot. but instead, he just gives the other man a look. )

But you still want it.

[personal profile] galvanist 2014-02-09 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Whale is on Team Science like 200%. however, he really can't ignore that he can fly and it's stupid and some people have not as stupid superpowers.]

If I'm going to be screwed over by magical powers, I'd at least like to be screwed over by something useful.
sufferably: (pic#6260497)

[personal profile] sufferably 2014-02-09 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
Fair enough.

( mccoy shrugs clenches and unclenches his fingers lightly. )

They're big on altruism, here. Can't use the magic on yourself.

[personal profile] galvanist 2014-02-09 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
[Whale lets out a small 'hrmph,' obviously annoyed.]

I don't know whether my liver would be pleased or angry at that. [pleased because hey, a cure to make hangovers less miserable or angry because lord only knows that if Whale had healing powers, he'd drink more.]

Anyway, how the gods expect me to save the world by flying is anyone's guess.

[personal profile] sufferably 2014-02-09 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
...christ. I didn't even think about that. ( which may seem like an odd thing to say, but it's becoming clearer and clearer to mccoy that this place isn't up to his technological standards. and that includes alcohol that won't lead you to an early, cancerous grave.

he may have to rethink his decision to drink his way out of this. maybe. )

They're fighting giants. Maybe they figure you can crash into one.

[personal profile] galvanist 2014-02-09 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
[McCoy, you are slowly rising further and further up in Whale's book. Someone else who enjoys alcohol and thinks that this place is entirely stupid? Hello there new best friend.]

Dr. Whale, surgeon turned human cannonball. [a pause.] I can't say that I haven't done stupider things.

[personal profile] sufferably 2014-02-09 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
Dr. McCoy, surgeon who prefers not to do stupid ass things.

( but somehow manages to, anyway. )

[personal profile] galvanist 2014-02-09 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Pleasure to meet you, McCoy. [Whale responds, with a nod.] And really, glad to know that there's more than one of us here. If we're fighting a war, I bet people will need to be patched up a lot.

[personal profile] sufferably 2014-02-09 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
( he gestures back at the house, his expression rueful. )

Well, there's a small army in there that can magic them right up. But like I was saying, I prefer sounder routes.

[personal profile] galvanist 2014-02-09 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
You and me both, [he mutters. it's obvious that Whale's annoyed by that idea.] Too much can go wrong with magical healing.
sufferably: (pic#6260535)

[personal profile] sufferably 2014-02-09 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't tried it out, yet. Not sure if I want to.

( because first of all it's creepy and second of all he already basically bring people back from the dead why the hell would he even need magic? )

Even if the tech here's lacking, it's something stable at least.

[personal profile] galvanist 2014-02-09 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I honestly wonder if the gods have even heard of an x-ray machine. [he complained, frowning.] Still, I've worked with worse.

[and, thankfully, still retained his memories and knowledge of how he 'worked with worse.']
sufferably: (pic#6260485)

[personal profile] sufferably 2014-02-09 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
( mccoy's eyes widen and he tries not to look too startled, but... )

The x-ray machine isn't worse?

[personal profile] galvanist 2014-02-12 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
What, are you kidding? Storybrooke's x-ray machine is top of the art! [and then he puts two and two together...]

This might be a dumb question, but what year was it for you when you were home?
sufferably: (pic#6260349)

[personal profile] sufferably 2014-02-12 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
And probably does as much harm as good. ( most "modern" medicine seems as barbaric as leeching, to him.

at whale's question, a little alarm bell goes off in his mind, sounding annoying like spock. prime directive, prime directive, it chants.

another voice, just as fervent but sounding more like jim, says, fuck that, you're in a mythological world. )

2260.

[personal profile] galvanist 2014-02-12 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Shit, [Whale simply responds, frowning slightly. 2260? No wonder he thought x-ray machines were barbaric.]

I'm from 2013.
sufferably: (pic#6260501)

[personal profile] sufferably 2014-02-12 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Jesus Christ.

( the 21st century wasn't as bad as the 20th, but it was objectively still pretty awful. especially the first few decades. )

I mean-- no, actually. I meant that. We're probably breaking some law of time just standing here.

[personal profile] galvanist 2014-02-13 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Whale couldn't help but laugh at that. A man from his time suddenly brought to the 21st century because of a magic curse already broke every law of time ever. This was just adding to the trouble.]

You'd know more about that than I would. Time isn't my forte.
sufferably: (pic#6260496)

[personal profile] sufferably 2014-02-13 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
It really isn't mine, either. I stick to medicine, and leave the realty-bending physics to the people who can handle it.

( also, time travel ruins lives and creates objectively worse splinter realities. this is fact. )

[personal profile] galvanist 2014-02-13 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
[he is slowly starting to find Bones much more of a kindred spirit than he expected the man to be. He thinks all of this is stupid also, Whale has a new friend.]

Honestly, I'd be fine with physics. At least that has a basis in fact. It's reality-bending magic, where I'm from.
