If you're any good, you wouldn't need the healing powers, would you?

Of course I'm good, [said with a little scoff because hello there ego.] I just thought that if we're going to be stuck with arbitrary powers, healing's better for me than flying.

Yeah, you really pulled the short straw on that one.

( flying is the absolute worst. it's probably even more awfully--and he'd have thought that was impossible--without a shuttle or ship keeping you in the air. )

But that doesn't mean you should just trust some mystical healing magic. Seems kind of sketchy, if you ask me.

Are you kidding? I don't trust any of this. After all, all magic comes with a price.

[he knows that he is parroting Mr. Gold from home and it absolutely kills him that he's doing it but really, experience has proven Gold true.]

( science is logical, mccoy thinks smugly, and then he imagines spock's face and actually wants to shoot himself in the foot. but instead, he just gives the other man a look. )

[Whale is on Team Science like 200%. however, he really can't ignore that he can fly and it's stupid and some people have not as stupid superpowers.]

If I'm going to be screwed over by magical powers, I'd at least like to be screwed over by something useful.

They're big on altruism, here. Can't use the magic on yourself.

[Whale lets out a small 'hrmph,' obviously annoyed.]

I don't know whether my liver would be pleased or angry at that. [pleased because hey, a cure to make hangovers less miserable or angry because lord only knows that if Whale had healing powers, he'd drink more.]

Anyway, how the gods expect me to save the world by flying is anyone's guess.

...christ. I didn't even think about that. ( which may seem like an odd thing to say, but it's becoming clearer and clearer to mccoy that this place isn't up to his technological standards. and that includes alcohol that won't lead you to an early, cancerous grave.

he may have to rethink his decision to drink his way out of this. maybe. )

Well, there's a small army in there that can magic them right up. But like I was saying, I prefer sounder routes.

You and me both, [he mutters. it's obvious that Whale's annoyed by that idea.] Too much can go wrong with magical healing.

I haven't tried it out, yet. Not sure if I want to.

( because first of all it's creepy and second of all he already basically bring people back from the dead why the hell would he even need magic? )

Even if the tech here's lacking, it's something stable at least.

I honestly wonder if the gods have even heard of an x-ray machine. [he complained, frowning.] Still, I've worked with worse.

at whale's question, a little alarm bell goes off in his mind, sounding annoying like spock. prime directive, prime directive, it chants.

( the 21st century wasn't as bad as the 20th, but it was objectively still pretty awful. especially the first few decades. )

I mean-- no, actually. I meant that. We're probably breaking some law of time just standing here.

[Whale couldn't help but laugh at that. A man from his time suddenly brought to the 21st century because of a magic curse already broke every law of time ever. This was just adding to the trouble.]

You'd know more about that than I would. Time isn't my forte.

It really isn't mine, either. I stick to medicine, and leave the realty-bending physics to the people who can handle it.

( also, time travel ruins lives and creates objectively worse splinter realities. this is fact. )

Honestly, I'd be fine with physics. At least that has a basis in fact. It's reality-bending magic, where I'm from.
