Day 461 ( June 9/10 )

When the Travellers wake up, they will find a message sent to every bracelet in the city:

As per the agreement between the gods and their Travellers, all persons within Asgard are humbly requested at the castle courtyard for enlistment in the Holy City's war efforts. Every individual is invited to find their resolve and seek out their purpose; this is the final stand in Ragnarok, and your help is needed now more than ever.

Enlistment is mandatory! Please see your local officials for more information.

A friendly if not a touch formal invitation to what will essentially be Asgard's job fair! A mandatory job fair. This is why we can't have nice things.

The castle courtyard and the streets leading into it will be crowded with bustling natives and several booths, not uncommon in appearance to the many festivals they've had over the last two years. This time, however, there is no music or celebration to be had. Everyone is hard at work organising their efforts for the war and doing their level best to assist in the transition.

Day 462 ( June 11/12 )

The fair will continue for two days, to give everyone time to get down there and make their decisions. Anyone that hasn't signed up by the end of this day will be visited at home by a city rep and a few guards that will politely ask them to register for a group and weaponry if they plan to carry it. Refusal will land them in jail for the day, where they will still be politely asked to please, seriously, just pick something. Anything. Uncle Odin wants you.

At the end of the fair, there will be food and drinks to thank the Travellers for their support and cooperation. Throughout the entirety of the event and for the rest of their stay, the natives will be more reverent and grateful than ever than the Travellers have chosen to stay and fight at their side. They will do anything they can to help them win this war; this evening will be one of camaraderie and appreciation for the past, present, and future sacrifices to save the World Tree.

Day 461 open.

[Finally, something she could feel useful at. So many choices for her, and in the end, she chose to sign up for the engineers. Building, fixing, making things work? It was entirely up her alley. She knew that magic would no doubt be working against them, but at least this way she could get the biggest clue of how to counter that. Fighting - well, that's what she had staff for, and she knew she wasn't the world's greatest welcomer. This made sense.

For a while, she stayed close to the stand, just to see who else would turn up that she knew and to find out who she'd be working with, but after that she wandered amongst the various stalls of the fair, just taking it in. The atmosphere had changed, and she was glad now to be part of it all.]

[There's only really the one choice for Four. Admittedly, it's mostly because he doesn't like any of the other options presented, but in time he makes his way over to the engineers. And if the fact that there's probably going to be more than one place with his name on the sign ups is going to be a problem, he figures that other people can deal with that, as long as he knows which one he's signed up for.

He's a little surprised to find Kate hanging out near the booth, but he offers a nod all the same. If they'll be working together he can't say he'd mind.

[Kate had spotted him walking over, watching him, then smiling with some delight as she saw where he signed up. The chance to work with at least one of the Doctors like this? It was a chance she was never going to turn down.]

Doctor. Fancy meeting you here.

Ah, likewise. I'm guessing you've also come to sign up for this one?

[It's a fairly reasonable guess, yes, but he can't be faulted for wanting to be certain of the details just in case. After all, anyone can hang around any of the booths if they really want to. But he supposes it might make some sense that Kate would consider this particular option.]

Well, I looked around, and none of the other groups really made sense. I'm not a fighter, at least not in the military sense of the word. Nor am I a medic. Building, and making sure things keep running... it was really the only choice.

[And she would love every minute of it.]

[Not a fighter and not a medic. Yes, that sounds terribly familiar. He's still not certain it's the best way to make a decision, but it is a decision and he'd like to think that no one can fault him for having managed that much.]

For the both of us, I think.

[And this is something that he actually sort of likes doing, even if the orders are going to take some getting used to, yet.]

[She tried to think of other things he could do... and failed.]

No, you're right, it does make perfect sense. I'm only surprised more of you haven't joined in.

Well, I'm only one of me. The only one of me, or the only one of this specific me, at least. And even if I might sometimes have the same opinions as my other selves, that doesn't always mean I'll like the same things.

[There's the barest idea of a shrug to go with his words, but he means what he says. He really can't guess what most of his other selves might be drawn to.]

True. Sometimes it's hard to keep track of you all. [She is fighting back a smile at that thought.] It does get a little confusing, I must admit. Knowing about you isn't the same as interacting, not like Dad did.

[ Maglor wanders among the booths, watching to see what choices people make. He makes no judgement one way or another, but when he sees people he knows, he drifts closer ]

The builders. [ He says softly as he comes up beside her ] A fitting choice for you I think Kate.

[scienceleads]

[She turns to smile at Maglor, always genuinely pleased to see her friend.]

Do you think so? I wondered which would be best, then realised that there really was no choice. I know enough that I can be of some help here.

[bythewaves]

[ He smiles back and bows a little ]

Aye - you have the mind of one better suited to rebuild and strengthen than to recklessly charge ahead. We will do better with strong hands like yours at home.

[scienceleads]

[She nodded once in acknowledgement of his words. He was right, she had to admit.]

To be honest, when it comes to fighting, I have a squadron of armed forces at my disposal. They go where I tell them. I'm not a fighter myself.

[bythewaves]

Ah, you had command at home as well? [ he tips his head curiously and smiles ] I can see it. How many in a squadron? And what did you fight?

[scienceleads]

They tend to work in units of fifteen or so. [It all depended on the strength of force needed.] Alien incursions, for the most part, though the soldiers all came through regular army. I might not be army myself, but my father was a high-ranking officer. Some of it did rub off, I'm sure.

[bythewaves]

"Aliens? Ah, like the Doctor's people? I suppose it would be too much to hope that all of them were as kind."

He nods. "You have spoken of your father before - it sounds like you have done him proud, Kate."

[scienceleads]

"Of a sort. There are other aliens out there, but yes, I know the Doctor well - have worked with him in the past. But there are lots of nasty aliens around about, as well as nicer ones." It was just unfortunate that Earth saw more than it's fair share of the ones who wanted to cause trouble.

"I hope I have - no, that's not true, I know I have. For so long I didn't have him in my life, and it was the one thing I always wanted - to do him proud."

[It is to the engineers division of Asgard's suddenly conscripted citizenry that Leonardo da Vinci sets pen to paper and scrawls his oddly messy signature. Really you would think an artist would have better penmanship or so one of those nameless Asgard citizens manning the booth remarks as a teasing dig at the other. A statement responded to in kind by a rude Italian gesture and a warm smile. ]

Really, they force us to come to their job fair... far too early in the morning I must say, and then they insult us.

[The feigned indignant reaction was said loudly enough for those behind the desk to hear, and snicker over, but was truly directed at the lady who had also just signed up.]

I suppose we will be working together?

[scienceleads]

[She watched the stranger approach, glaring at the Asgardians manning the stall. Really, did it matter what a signature looked like? Frankly, anyone who was willing to sign up was to be treasured.]

I suppose we shall, sir. Kate Stewart, at your service.

Leonardo da Vinci. It is a pleasure to meet you!

[As it gradually became clear for whom the glare intended he quickly waved a hand. All in fun, Leonardo just smiled, taking none of the criticism to heart. He did have sloppy handwriting after all and had no problem about being teased for it.]

Do not mind them. They are only trying to retaliate for all the questions I asked them earlier.

[scienceleads]

Leonardo... Well then, it's my pleasure to meet you!

[If it was truly the great man, which she had no doubt it was, it really was an honour for her.]

There is nothing wrong with questions. I'd far rather have a barrage of questions than risk a mistake later.

Asking questions is the beginning of knowledge.

[Agreed and... speaking of which, he can not help but use that to segue into one of his own. ]

Are you an inventor or maybe even an architect?

[scienceleads]

I'm a scientist, not an inventor. I tend to be able to look at this, take them apart, and figure out how they work, as well as the best use for them. Though sometimes my job requires that I come up with... inventive solutions to problems.

Finding inventive solutions to problems is just what we could use right now.

[He reached out to offer a hand. ]

I am glad you decided to join the team.

[scienceleads]

[She gave a small laugh, before shaking his hand in return. Well, if they needed inventive solutions, you couldn't get better than Leonardo da Vinci, truth be told.]

So am I. I suspect we shall get to know each other better in the coming months, at least.
